Congress is back in action this week, and we wanted to make you aware of a couple of hearings before the House Agriculture Committee.
This morning at 9:00 a.m. Central (10 a.m. Eastern), the General Farm Commodities Subcommittee will be reviewing the "Financial Health of Farm Country." The hearing is designed to bring attention to the reality that the market and outlook has changed dramatically since the passage of the 2014 Farm Bill. You can access the line-up of witnesses at http://agriculture.house.gov/hearing/subcommittee-general-farm-commodities-and-risk-management-–-public-hearing-0, and we are very pleased to inform you that Steve Verett will be testifying from the Southwest region. If you want to listen, you can do so at http://m.ustream.tv/channel/hclive18.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 10:00 Eastern, the full House Agriculture Committee will conduct a hearing to "Review Agricultural Subsidies in Foreign Countries." This hearing is designed to shine a light and show what U.S. farmers are competing against. At this hearing, Dr. Darren Hudson of Texas Tech University will bring testimony and discuss the "Foreign Subsidies Database" (see: http://www.depts.ttu.edu/ceri/). Dr. Hudson has briefed Congressional staff on this several times, but this is the first time this dataset will be featured in front of the Full Committee — a significant accomplishment. You can use the same link as above to listen to this hearing tomorrow morning.
