Saturday, April 05, 2014 6:00 AM

Dawson County agriculture producer Shawn Holladay of Lamesa completed his term as president of the Lamesa Cotton Growers organization last month.

On Friday, he was elected as president of Plains Cotton Growers, Inc. for 2014-2015, during that group’s quarterly board of directors meeting held in Lubbock.

Plains Cotton Growers is a 41-county cotton producer organization.

In addition to serving this past year as president of the Lamesa Cotton Growers, Holladay also served as chairman of both the National Cotton Council’s Farm Program and Economic Policy Committee and the American Cotton Producers’ Farm Policy Task Force.

In his capacities as chairman of those committees, Holladay helped represent the cotton industry during development of the new farm bill.

Others elected on Friday to serve with Holladay as officers of the Plains Cotton Growers were Johnie Reed, of Kress, as vice president and Stacy Smith, of New Home, as secretary-treasurer.
